Not all vitamins and supplements are created equal. Vitamins and Supplements are not required to be approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). There is very little oversight in quality control and dosage standardization. This can lead to subpar products.

Drug-Induced Nutrient Depletion

Did you know that many prescriptions can cause you to lose certain nutrients? This is known as drug-induced nutrient depletion. For example, if you are taking an angiotensin II receptor blocker such as losartan or valsartan, it can cause your body to become low in Calcium, Magnesium, and Zinc. Drug Interactions

Certain vitamins and supplements can interact with your prescription medications. For example, Vitamin K can prevent Coumadin (warfarin) from thinning the blood and preventing blood clots. Make sure that your doctor and pharmacist know what prescriptions and over-the-counter vitamins and/or supplements you are taking.
